Puerto Cortes’ City Hall, better known as La Municipalidad, is where you
basically get just about any and all type of legal documentations
that you would normally need for setting-up a business, registering
your real estate property, (this department is called Catrasco)
payment of excise and other local taxes, acquire temporary
permits-specially for a one day social events, getting married and
so on.
Make sure you take some reading material to fill your
waiting time, while waiting in line to be served, obviously,
depending on the day of the week or the time of day that you go for
service. Patient is certainly a virtue here!
The current
Mayor, Marlon Lara has been re-elected to office more than once and
the local seen to have a deep likening for him. A doctor graduate by
trade, this Mayor under 40 years old, is on an upward and forward
trend in turning Puerto Cortes into a more vibrant city port as it
should be. Moreover, he has peeked his term in office as a Mayor,
and by the constitution laws of Honduras, come this November 2005,
they will be a new Mayor elected.
The City itself has been cleaned up a
lot by the current municipal administration and has a very
attractive central park. There are decent hotels and restaurants in
the Port center, on the municipal beach, and on other nearby
beaches. The municipal beach is a big attraction for locals on
weekends and holidays.
